Resources for Teaching Online

Shifting from an in-person to an online classroom requires different pedagogical approaches and skill sets. Below is a list of curated articles, videos and websites that aim to help educators transition to the online format. 

Websites & Articles

  • University of Minnesota features a terrific list of strategies specific to higher education, including how to create effective learning experiences online, ideas for learning activities,  assessing student learning and more. Visit, Teaching Resources at University of Minnesota's Center for Innovation.
  • From Harvard Business Publishing, a  website, Teaching Online Resources, features a good selection of articles, guides, and recorded webinars.
  • A website geared to higher education professionals, teachonline.ca, features a robust list of resources and tools. 
  • This article gives insight about what it's like to teach online, Online teaching: a reflection, featured in The Journal of Classics Teaching.
  • Some helpful strategies for teaching online in this article from the online publication, Faculty Focus.

Videos & Tutorials

  • Though somewhat dated, this series of videos from COFA at the University of South Wales (UNSW), on YouTube includes several videos on practical strategies for teaching online both in Higher Ed and K-12.  It provides suggestions based on sound pedagogical practices and recommends strategies for using technology as a tool to reach and engage students. 
  • This video, from the COFA series, is specific to high schoolers, though it also applies to higher education, Using online communities to foster collaboration in visual arts.​​​
